Hi,

Does anyone know if a full set of plans for the Rudy Kouhoupt walking beam engine are available? I've been trying to use the drawings in the Popular Mechanics article contained in the downloads section but they are missing a lot of detail.
I have made the cylinder/valve/piston sub-assembly. I couldn't get my head around the porting for the rotary valve so I've made it with a spool valve which works OK.
I'm now having trouble figuring out how the main pivot goes together. If I can't get a decent set of plans I guess I'll have to design a lot of this from scratch - which is OK, but it would be easier if I had the drawings.

Regards,
Alan C.

Thanks guys.

I found the book at Village Press. The link is
https://secure.villagepress.com/store/items/detail/item/1432
It looks like a good deal for $20. I'll write a review when I get it.
I found another video which is a better quality on YouTube as well. I think I can see how the pivot is constructed. Not sure if I like it.

Thanks again,
Alan C.

I built it a couple of years ago and I remember being confused about the valve arrangement also. In looking through some CAD files the other day I ran across a drawing laying out all of the valve positions trying to determine the correct positions. The engine works fine once it is built.

Thanks for the comment Gordon. I think I'll stick with the spool valve.
By the way, I meant to give a link to the higher quality video. It is:
