;D I have jumped in at the deep end and purchased a new Steelmaster 9 x 20 lathe over Christmas.

I am a 64 year old retired (or rather "tired") mechanic. Although I must admit I gave up that profession quite some time ago and since have tried my hand at Stevedoring (interesting), sailing around Australia and New Zealand for 5 years (sometimes exciting), renovating old houses (rewarding) and then settling down here in Hobart as a driving instructor (lots of fun).

I have always had an ambition to learn the skill of machining and thought that now was as good a time as any to give it a go.

I have been very impressed with the standard of knowledge and attitude on this forum and look forward to being a part of it.

For those who are wondering were Hobart is, it is in Tasmania. (That's the small island at the bottom of Australia held in place by the phone cables)

Cheers and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Welcome to the forum, and the hobby! ;D I hope you have a lot of fun with it. Keep us posted. ;D

I always thought it was the apple tree roots that kept us together. ;D

I would hazaard a guess that xr6t is a ford man as per his forum name ;D

Welcome mate, as an ex mechanic (ford) myself we should be able to gang up on this lot...

Thanks,

Maryak (Bob) I gather you are ex-navy, don't recognise the ship though? I was on the Vendetta in the Malaya/Borneo Confrontation and on the Sydney later in Viet.

Good guess Artie, used to race minis now a I would have a distinct weight disadvantage, still like a little performance hence the xr6t.
