That's the eBay phenomena ..... auction fever ... making stupid bids in the heat of the auction.

I paid $19.50 for my new Starrett Center Gage.
LMC has them on sale at the moment for $17.33

For a Brown & Sharpe gage, the price may not have
been too far out of line.
