First change I made to the engine was the frame. Actually my wife suggested it. Didn't particularly like the look of the horseshoe and I could see myself going nuts getting things parallel and flat so I used 2 bars and opened them up a bit. This is a small engine and some of the links and other parts looked a little bulky so I lightened them up a bit. The flywheel was a hunk of mystery metal that ate a HSS lathe bit. Looked pretty bad when it was done but thanks to Tremclad Hammered Finish spray paint (that stuff can hide anything) it turned out ok. Runs great down to 1 or 2 psi.
