I originally designed this to produce and sell, but decided I'd rather make it a community project, one that allows any new people the absolute easiest and cheapest way into the hobby. The model is 3/4" scale 3.5" gauge and uses two "speed 600" sized motors. The ones I bought were 12v surplus for 5$ a piece. All the bushings can be ordered from McMaster Car, and the wheels I believe are simply Kozo's tender wheels from the A3 switcher. It uses belt drive, the pulleys are available from sterling instrument, using a standard Gates size.
If you wanted to make this in 1" scale, 4.75" gauge, go to metal gears and "speed 700" sized motors. 1.5" gauge? Chain and scooter motors...
The two black things are sealed lead acid batteries. All the files I have are in SW2011 format. I am taking over as the Editor for the Call Boy which is the GGLS newsletter, I am going to put the drawings in it as a project starting in 2012.
I will not be building a prototype due to financial and time constraints, so view this locomotive as beta, and engineer as you go if you elect to build it. I will be extremely excited to see what you guys come up with.
