The latest project is far enough along now not to be abandoned or completely ashamed of so thought I'd post a picture of the thing as it stands. It's an imitation of an engine/pump that was once available as a set of castings, I'm drawing up plans as I go and will upload them when in a suitable state (the plans that is, not me :big: ). Probably a bit too much steel and solder for some tastes....blame Tel, he made me do it! :big:

Looks very nice to me Paul. Is there another rod working of the yoke to drive the pump?

Bill

Paul-

I like it a lot.

I think modelers could do a whole lot more than they do with steel if they thought about it.
Your frame is a perfect example.

Steel is extremely pliable, bendable, weldable, machinable you name it, you can pretty much do it with steel.

I don't think there is such a thing as too much soldering, or too much silver soldering.
You can build some really great stuff with a little silver soldering and thought.

Keep up the great work, and post more photos.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes Bill, I made the pump cylinder/rod after that photo. Just need to finish off the cylinder/valve stuff and eccentric. Oh, yeah, and the dreaded flywheel!

I've 'blogged' the build here temporarily:

I agree, BigOnSteam, steel is the business... the frame for this one started as a lump of rusty old angle!

Couldn't get things lined up so took a month long break. An hour of TLC tonight and all seems well so I gave it something to drink (and spit out)

This is just a very pleasing project Paul...nice lines to it, good craftsmanship, and something just a little different. That's some mighty fine spittin' there too!! Looking forward to more.

Bill

Thank you Bill.

I assembled the cylinder & valve chest tonight, here it is just after soldering (ignore the steel stub in the valve hole!).

Ah, there you are - I was beginning to wonder!

Progressing well!

It was nearly a flying machine a month back Tel, right over my garden fence as far as I could throw it... just couldn't get the bits to line up. All seems ok now - had to try the pump out again - you understand :D

Made a bit more progress tonight, steam passages sorted, just the valve, eccentric, flywheel and odd bits and bobs to go.
