I am currently using the 90% rubbing alcohol stuff you can buy at any drug or grocery store and it leaves a lot of soot. Is there anything out there that is readily available that doesn't leave such a residue behind?

Thank you,
Dan

Dan,
Try some denatured alcohol available in the paint dept. of the home improvement stores, paint stores, or probably most hardware stores. You should find it will burn much cleaner.

........If you are using this for Stirling you found out like I did, dirty smokey. Use the 70% rubbing alchohol. 50% doesn't light. You can dilute your 90% with more water and try it too.

If you can't find denatured ethanol, try pure methanol (not as hot as ethanol) also sold as a thinner in the paint department. With either one, you want the pure stuff, not adulterated with anything. Water doesn't burn and you don't need it to smell nice.
