    Another Mine Engine

When I started working on the Tractor, I had this engine almost done. I kind of pushed it aside while doing other things, but finally got around to finishing the last couple little parts for it. Put it all together,,hooked up the air, and darn it would not run. Ok has to be timing, so played...

    Painting Aluminum and Brass

Since my brother paints hot rods, and does a lot of painting on aluminum and some brass, I asked him for what product he uses for primer. He uses only Dupont Etch Primer number A-4115S, it comes in both spray cans and gallon cans. Like he said, he can't afford come back due to paint chipping...

    Two Questions

I have two questions that I am sure someone here can answer! 1. I have both the 3 jaw and 4 jaw chuck for my Sherline lathe, in turning down round stock is there any advantage to using one or the other? 2. In milling slots in brass and aluminum with a 1/16 inch end mill, what is the different...

    Gaskets on Steam Engine Heads?

Almost every plan I have seen on small steam engine's they use paper gaskets. I am just curious why we can't use High Temp Silicone such as Nuflex 302, it withstands temp up to 500 degrees, its what is used for many new car engines instead of gaskets. Even my Hot Rod engine the exhaust...

Start of my Horizontal Mill Engine

Being new to using a mill and lathe, I bought a casting kit to start with. Well after making a mistake on one of the castings right off, decided to learn more about machining by making parts from bar stock. That way as I make a mistake can just use more bar stock to redo it. I must say though...

    Hello From Abbotsford, British Columbia

Would like to say hello to all. First would like to say I am not a machinist, nor have I ever been one, but if you need advice on how to turn nice little bits of brass into smaller chips all over the place, I am the one to talk to. I have both a sherline mill and lathe, and have just started...
