I scored a tool for checking the height of printing press packing, BUT what could I make out of these that I could use in the home hobby shop? Let your imagination run wild and let me know, I'm between projects and need an excuse to go back to work making something.

Jack: Good score! The first thing that comes to my mind is to make a holder to mount them face up to tram a mill spindle. The second would be to use them with a surface gauge to check height changes in machined surfaces. One thing I have been contemplating is mounting one on the carriage of a lathe to try and bring the "gap bed" ways back into alignment. My Dad needed to remove the gap on our 1970's 14x30" Jet knockoff lathe and could never get the ways back the same after he cleaned the mating surfaces. The back plunger seems to be the most observable type of dial indicator for these uses.
Happy imagining -------Don
