Valve Seats

Not the smartest kid on the block but have managed to build a couple of engines that actually run.
I always have trouble with valves & seats and lapping them in. I just had an issue with a (bought) Chianese blue hit & miss which lost comp. through the inlet valve. When I dismantled it the valve & seat is sealing on the full width of the seat face.
When I made my engines I kept the seating in the center of the valve face.
which is correct, as I seem to have a lot of issues lapping valves with a full face seat.
