Howdy folks...I have an old Trak DRO that came with my Bridgeport. It has worked great for over a year. Last night I used it without any issues. This morning I noticed that I left it on...thought nothing of it.

When I started using I noticed it was not reading correctly.

When I move the table in the X direction .010", the readout tells me .050".

When I move the table .020", the readout tells me .100" and so on.

What the hell would make it do this?

I took it off and cleaned it, installed it again, the same thing is happening!

Help!

Hi Chris,

It sounds like a divider counter has failed. If the difference is consistent then that is what I would look for. I don't know if that unit uses TTL or not, but if you are lucky the chips might be in sockets. If that's the case it will be easy to unplug each chip and re-seat it. That will eliminate a bad connection on one or more pins. Being able to unplug them also makes a repair quite quick.

Another possibility is dry solder joints. In which case prodding the joints with a wooden skewer may help you find it.

HTH. Good Luck.
