I'm having trouble understanding the way a telescoping compound engine works. (An engine with HP and LP pistons inline on the same piston rod).
Were the pistons tied together or did they move independently on the same axis? Seems like 'telescoping answers my question. )
Did they function as a double acting cylinder, with one side being lower pressure? How did the valving work?
I've seen an drawing of 'central valving', seems like along piston/spool valve. This is thought provoking.
Is it possible ... (anything is possible, I guess I mean is it viable) to use a hollow piston rod as steam passage with a uniflow telescoping or steeple compound design?
