Does anyone have any experience of retaining an eccentric strap by means of a groove on the eccentric and a screw through the strap rather than using cheek plates?

TIA

Paul

Paul,

A lot of the Stuart kits are like that, my Stuart 10h is ,it's just a bit of a fiddle keeping the screw in the right position to avoid binding.

the trick is to use a longer screw, with a lock nut on it

Another one to add to the 'doh, why didn't I think of that' list!

Thanks Giles, I didn't know that technique was used on any of the Stuarts - must be worth trying then ;D

Paul,

Rudy Kouhopt's Steam Tractor also uses the screw in the strap method.

Thanks Denis, it was on his 'Grasshopper' beam engine that I first noticed the method...must give it a whirl!
