Hi All!

Noobie question here ...

I have a tool maker's vise which has a threaded hole on each side of the fixed jaw.

Can anyone tell me what these holes are used for?

Thanks

They are mainly used for attaching stops. I have some slotted plates I use, some have a tapped hole near one end so I can use a cap screw for an adjustable stop.

Nasty,
Like Kevin said, for mounting a stop.

Here's one in use.

The plate is attached to the vise with an 8mm bolt, the plate is tapped 1/4-20 for a bit of all-thread and a lock nut. Very handy for making multiple copies of parts.
