Does anyone still use a paraffin blowlamp?

I bought this little beauty for £3 today,I spent a bit of the afternoon renovating this old Sievert paraffin blowlamp, it roars and spits fire like a Chinese dragon. I just needed something for silver soldering and I have found the gas blowlamps are pretty weedy and expensive to run. The mesh is stainless steel, it doesn't melt it but it gets almost white hot.

Is there a downside to using these lamps?, obviously it will never be left unattended

Hi Andrewinpopayan i had a 2 pint one a good few years back with an 1,250" nozzle that would melt fire bricks. it took a lot of pumping. they are a good tool

I have one and they are great as a preheater for silver soldering large areas, they are also good for wiping cable joints on lead sheathed cables, they can be used as a paint stripper. Most of them have a mount for holding soldering irons and are great when you have some of the bigger, (2-4 lb irons), to keep hot.

Best Regards
