Hi everybody !! Has anyone ever set up a stirling engine the same in picture ?????

The stirling engine has a phase angle at 90 degree. In case the compression is too high where the engine is impossible to start up ---> set the phase angle at 120 degree. 45 degree phase angle will not works, but if you has the cylinders set at 45 degree and the phase angle is set to 90 degree then the engine will work.

You could get around the phase -angle problem by using a crankshaft with two crankpins spaced 45 degrees apart. That would give a combined angle of 90 degrees. The cylinders would ahve to be slightly offset to line up with the two different crankpins. Many motorcycle engines do something similar so it can work ok. Much more complex than the usual 90 degree cylinder placement though. Also the hot cylinder is very close to the cool cylinder in this design, not an ideal set up. And primary balance is poor, whereas it is perfect in the 90 degree set up, if piston and rod weight is the same.

A little confused by your sketch. Is the "hot cylinder" the displacer cylinder and the "cold cylinder" your power cylinder? If so then you don't need fins on the "cold" one.

Minh Thanh..

The last question, which stirling engine is this: Alpha- or Gamma stirling engine?

Hi Mechanicboy !
Both of them , Alpha and Gamma stirling engine ! And the design only description for my ideas..
And Barnbikes , You're right about it : "....don't need fins on the "cold" one"
