Greetings - this is my first post here.

I have a chance to purchase an old Hardinge HLV (not HLV-H), with the 5" wide bed. I will test it under power on Friday.

My concern is that if the bed is worn, and perhaps the spindle bearings get hot or make a lot of noise, what would be a fair price to pay for such a machine?

I read someplace that Hardinge no longer supports the HLV, so new bearings ($1500??) or new bed ways ($2000???), might not be possible.

Any advice to help a fellow metal buff? In my area, you don't see an HLV up for sale every day - they are quite scarce, and being able to test under power is even more rare. Avoiding the whole E-bay fiasco and machinery dealer markup would be great.

I'm going to call Hardinge and see what they say.

There is also a very uncommon Precis lathe for sale, which is metric threading, but again, finding parts in France or Germany could be a problem. Comments?

thanks
Joseph
