I am getting started on gear cutting and my first reference is confusing me. I have a copy of Gears and Gear Cutting by Ivan Law Workshop Practice Series # 17. In chapter 12, Making Gear Cutters, page 114, there is a chart dimensioning the cutter. The way I read the chart the numbers given are to large. The numbers are stated as being in inches but the smallest button, for cutter # 6, is 7.8". Where am I going wrong in my interpretation?

Just above the table it says that the sizes are for 1DP and you need to divide these by the DP you are using.

so if making 32DP gears thats 7.8" / 32 = 0.244"

Go to Marve Kluts web site and download cutter exe witch will work out the sizes for you , cutter size in feed distance apart for module and DP , so much quicker .
