Following the outstanding response to my "El cheapo degree indicator" post
I thought I might share my El Cheapo Carriage Stop. Once again the photo
should be self explanatory, its the bright shiny thingamabob. Yes there are
soft pads under the jaws. If warranted I will post plans. :p
Tel please note the V/S mounted.

Yes, that's it, hiding up by the chuck. Do you recognize the little critter? Love the Kant-Twist. Built in soft pads on her jaws. Comes in all sizes for different lathes. This one fits perfectly on my little 9x30.

Cheers,

It's just a 2" Kant-Twist. They're available in all sizes. What's nice is they hold really strongly and they already have brass jaws to protect the lathe. One disadvantage versus vise grips is you need enough clearance to twist the handle the last little bit to lock it down. I got a set of 6 of these little clamps off eBay for $15. Well worth it to me. I use them for all sorts of little things.

I wish they made more models, kinda like Vise Grips come in a lot of shapes. For example, a clamp with really long skinny jaws would be handy where today I have to use a machinist's parallel clamp.

Cheers,

BW

Stan, all I can say is:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, bliss.

CrewCab has his toaster, and I have my Kant-Twist clamps. You've shown me heaven.

Thank You!
