It is hard to talk about American industrial history and invention without mentioning the name Thomas Edison.
IMHO a must see historical site in Northern New Jersey is the Edison NHS.

of course the highlight of the tour is the machine shop. Although his office and library is impressive to say the least . My wife saysI have too many books? anyway a must see .

and if you visit, Micro-mark is only about 20 miles away and a half hour drive.
Micro-Mark is located at 340 Snyder Avenue, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922
preserve history visit a National historic site this summer.

PS I mentioned the new Great Falls NHS in Patterson in another thread that is about 12 miles 22 minutes to the north.
