After some head scratching ???, I think I figured it out.............salt. We have a water softener installed by the entrance to my shop. A few weeks before I noticed the corrosion, I filled up the unit with salt pellets. After dumpping a 20 Kg bag in, a cloud of fine salt dusted out of the bag.

I wiped down all my models and re-oiled them and they have been OK since.
Today I had to reload the unit. I came up with a method to stop the dust. I poured water over the pellets first out in the backyard, then dumped them in the unit. So far so good, no dust clouds.

If you are not familiar with a water softener here is a description:

City-folks rarely need these, but the small town I live in basically uses well water, and it is hard stuff. You need twice as much soap to clean anything and your white shirt looks like cream after a few washes. At least that is what my wife said :big:
