I just joined this forum, and just picked up a Stuart 10V kit.
My question is what's the best source to get the "BA taps" required for this project?

I look forward to hearing what others have to say on this. I need some too.

I have done some business with http://www.britishfasteners.com (tools for my British Seagull outboards)

His prices for the taps and dies seem rather spendy. I have not yet placed an order.Waiting to see what other options are out there.

I have gotten many from eBay - some where from eBay stores and others from auctions.

Another source is Model Fixings in the UK

http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/drills_taps_&_dies.htm Metric, BA and some BSW

Another source is Chronos modeling engineering in the UK

I am in Canada and have good luck getting stuff in the UK sometimes more quickly and at better prices than buying in the US or Canada for that matter.

cheers, Graham in Ottawa Canada

My solution has been to substitute US machine screw sizes for the BA....but I guess that doesn't really answer your question.

More-or-less equivalents are:

8BA = 2-56 or 2-64
7BA = 3-56
6BA = 4-48
5BA = 5-44
4BA = 6-40
3BA = 8-32 or 8-36
2BA = 10-32

Without knowing what part of the world you come from, it can be very difficult to suggest where to obtain them from.

In the UK

http://www.tracytools.com/index.htm

If you want to buy in bulk (9 off for taps & 5 off for dies) you cannot beat the quality and price of here. All HQS.

From any other country, maybe the locals can help.

One US supplier could be

http://www.mmmachines.com/
(Morrison Miniature Machines)

I have never dealt with them, but their web catalog lists not only BA taps and dies but also ME and BSB.

Web searching will find others; it's just a pain sifting the wheat from the chaff.

I suspect you're not from down-under but anyway...

I've found the guys at Minitech in Queensland, Australia very helpful and knowledgeable about our hobby. They have sets of taps and dies...

When I lived in Singapore for a few years they shipped to me up there with ease.
