I will be watching this build with great interest. I have a real soft spot for steam cars, its such a great combination, cars + steam engines = perfect match. That seems to be a really nice chunk of CI you have there too.

Have to admit I have been going through the same thought process myself. Limited space means every machine has to be as useful as possible. So it would be great to get a machine that will do more than one thing. A belt sander that could be used on the odd wood project and to 'grind' tooling...

I'm a rank beginner and I have completed both the HMEM EzEngine, (plans are in the downloads section) and the EJS Wobbler. Both are really nice easy engines to build. The EJS will run fairly slowly as it is double acting and has a nice big flywheel. Both can be completed on a lathe, a mill is...

Mine is single phase, but then I do have that fancy 240v UK supply ;D It was size that killed it for me too, I have the ability to move a bigger mill but not really the space to keep one.

George YHM. Comments re Y axis tram, there is no ability to tram the Y axis at all on this mill, bar shimming. :( Chris

George I have that exact mill myself and am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. The version I have is not the Grizzly one, rather a UK badged machine running with metric leadscrews. I do have some niggles with the machine at present, but overlooking them for the time being...
