    Dividing Plate Mod?

When I purchased my 6" RT I also got the tail stock and dividing plates. Has anyone seen a Mod project that will allow one to use the plates off the back of the lathe? I've only seen a couple of mods for mounting gears and using the 'teeth' of the gears as the index. Thanks, Chazz

    9 x 20 Cross-Slide improvements With Pics :)

First SORRY I forgot my camera at work, but I will get it tomorrow,I promise. So for anyone who has never done this, here is a basic list of what I just finished (took about 2 mos, but worth every second two fold, 1 being experience gained and 2, a better lathe! :) 1st weekend - lapped the CS...

Dieing a long thread AKA What happened?

I'm doing the cross slide upgrade on my 9 x 20 Lathe from the stock 6mm to 7/16" x 20TPI. I got a 7/16" x 20 TPI LH Die and the screw has a taper in it? The starting end is the right size but it tapers to the point that the new 'nut' seizes up about 3/4 of the way down the screw. (BTW The...

Poor mans' way to measure (angular) force?

I want to put a motor on the 'Z' axis (with limit switch) of my mill\drill for ease of tool changes, setups and such. How do you figure out how many ft\lbs or what ever flavor of force (mN/m) it takes to turn the z axis shaft? To match a motor to it? Thanks On the same note, I came across a...

    Newbie machinng projects

After spending the last while tweaking my machines, I decided I wanted a couple of easy machining prrojects and while during my leasurly day off surfing about I came across 2 projects I thought I'd share. I believe both projects accomplish a lot of things (for me) ;D 1. Simple 2. Skill devloping...

    Why I love this site

Because of the excellent tipsadvise shared here, this is what happened. A few folks have posted about salvaging printers at the dump for material so when we replaced our stove I had an excuse to go to the dump (a long drive here) and I found a tossed printer. With a Phillips screwdriver and 1/2...

    Q.C.T.P. Mounting Question

Just got my new QCTP + 6 tool holders at the post today. Woo Hoo! :) Now the delema, does one modify the existing stock compound (I have already replaced the stock 2 bolt 'clamping plate'? with a 4 bolt 'mod')) to accept the new tool post or, make a custom clamping system? Useless thoughts: The...

Riser Blocks & Mounts Part 2

So lunch is over (hic) and back to play, :) again, there is nothing too special about mounting the mounts (sounds like a threesome ;D ) The two things I considered were, aligning the pads with the legs of the lathe and recessing the pads under the stand to prevent a tripping point. Two down...

Riser Blocks & Mounts Part 1

I wanted to raise the lathe for a few reasons, more chip room, stop the gear change handle from bottoming out on the chip tray, I also didn't like the clearence between the carrage apron and the chip tray (finger pinch potential), and eventually ::) when I upgrade my motor I plan to mount it...

    Lathe crank handle

A couple of my mods were done before I got my camera and found this site. Anyway, one of my first projects was to make a bigger, beefier cross slide leadscrew which requires a left hand thread, so, before I even start, I wanted a hand crank for left hand threading. It's pretty straight forward...

    My Playpen

Well I think I have the photo upload thing figured out so here are some pics of my Mill & Lathe and my play area. Enjoy! Of Course, I had to move my equipment. :) And power distribution. :) Here we have a few more bits and pieces. Now some of the other toys. ;D Well, that...

    Hello from Yellowknife Canada

Greetings, my name is Chazz and since my Marine Engineering days some 30 years ago, I've always wanted to get into Hobby\Model engineering. About 6 months ago I got my Craftex (by Busy Bee Tools) Lath and Mill. ;D Anyway, since that day I have also been tooling up. I also just got a digital...

AC VFD vs. DC Variable Speed

Greetings, both my Lathe and Mill came with .75 HP motors and I am thinking of beefing them up to 1HP variable speed. My search skills don't seem to be working right to find any threads regarding the above, because I'm sure this must have been discussed already, if not a lot? From what I've...

    MT3 Face Mill Supplier

Greetings, I have a Craftex CT129N Mill with a MT3 Spindle, if it is possible to run a 2 ~ 3" face mill, I can't seem to locate any MT3 Face Mill holders? Just single point fly cutters or face mills requiring R8 and up spindles? Tnx Chazz
