I just finished using two boring bars from one of those $20 9 piece sets from Ebay.
Some one asked about them so here is the report.

The look and feel compaired to a Sandvik is terrible but I am a new kid and money is important. Making models, my time is cheep so I tried them in cast iron. I mounted them in a sq head Criterion boring head (another Ebay find) Went nice and slow. Never more then .02 at a time, and obtained a very nice finish with no problems

Summery, if you aren't making your living with them, they are OK.

I'll second that. :)

Mine went straight to the grinder to clean up the rough ground edges on the carbide tips.
I haven't used them a lot, but they have worked well so far.

I bought that same set of boring bars a few years back.

I don't have a QCTP holders so my boring bar holder was made
on the lathe to create a perfectly on center to the chuck
holder.

Those inexpensive boring bars have worked very well for me with
no modifications except for one. It was ground to a 60° included angle
to become an internal threading tool that also works very well.

I also got two sets, different diameters, of that mostly used on boring head and internal works on the late...I agree inexpensive and working very well...
