Hello,

I built these boring tool holders today. These are for my 8 and 10mm dia boring tools. Mounting the tools is very fast now.

Well done.

And if you, and I'm sure you have done, drill them in your lathe then they wre always on centre....no shims ever required.

Here is mine. When I am feeling lazy the centre cutting end mill will go in without a drill.

Thank you guys.

Davidh, of course no need to use any shim. I have drilled them in my lathe.

Yours is nice man. Good job.

Regards.

Hi,

I'm interested in the angle of the insert on these boring bars.

I was taught to keep the "plan approach angle" of the tool at 90 degs to the wall of the bore (as if you wanted to make the bottom of the bore flat). If the tool tip is angled so the point leads, there is the risk / tendancy for the tool tip to dig in as the tool advances and as the boring tool is quite long (and relatively flexible) this results in a bore that tapers outwards as the depth increases.

Has anyone had problems with this?

Ian.
