Hi
I have a M&W model 944 -Not sure which model you have but I suspect they are all similar in construction.
First remove the large scale knurled locking screw and then the small countersunk screw in the rectangular part that has the bevel locking screw. - no need to remove the bevel locking screw at this stage - gently prise up the the bush on the scale pivot and then the rectangular piece.
You should then see why it is not locking.
It could be due to adjustment of the eccentric but I suspect it is more likely to be due to wear on the part that fits into the grove of the bevel.
Hope that helps
