A little whicle ago I picked up an old Moore & Wright micrometer at a car boot sale.
The spindle/thimble assembly all moves freely but the lock not appears to be seized which makes using the micrometer tricky as by the time I've manouvered it into a position where I can read the gauge the thimble has spun and altered the reading.
Is it likely that the the lock nut is just gunged up and a good clean will sort it (could be an excuse to get one of those ultransonic cleaners ) or is there any sort of mechanism 'inside' the micrometer that could be jamming it up ?
Cheers
Jim
