Serious question here. Punches and chisels are a common hand tools. Pin punches center punches etc. I have seen these as simple projects in text books and in the HSM magazine. However it seems that tool steels are not sold in small hex size. What is a good alloy to use that is available in say 5/16 hex?? You know the requirements easy to machine and heat treatable.
1018 quenched in motor oil maybe? Yes I looked in Mcmaster Carr catalog.
Suggestions please!!
