This is a most wonderful site for an incipient hobbyist
who worked in a machine shop through college in the 1950's.
Always wanted my own lathe but real world exigencies prevented
it until now when unlimited time is available.

The wisdom of the generous folks here is inspirational, informative,
and just plain fun to read.

While practicing chip making by following the great books by Hall and
others I have gained deeper appreciation for the tool and die makers
I saw in the college machine shop.

I stumbled onto "The Shop Wisdom of D.E. Johnson by D.E. Johnson" which
is Metal Porn. :)

I would appreciate any information on "Shop Wisdom of Rudy Kouhoupt Set: Vols. I, II, III, IV "
before I spend for them. So far my standard is D.E. Johnson.

Also has anyone read "Shop Wisdom of James Mcknight "?

My appreciation for being invited to this great site.

Best.

Welcome Topos!

I've got Rudy's I and II. Worth the money for sure.

If he designed and documented it....it works...... PERIOD.

Are you looking for engine projects or tool projects? ...or something else?

Glad to have you!

regrettably only have volume 1 but good stuff. Rudy was a friend and a hero . I only saw him at shows .he treated me with respect and in many ways an equal. I should fill out my collection. I wish i picked them up when they were cheaper and rudy was alive to sign them for me.
that being said the rudy books are collections of articles from the various Villiage press magazines. Each book covers several years of writings. the books hold value so my recommendation is just buy the set from villiage press. If you find you really do not like one or all you can sell on E-bay for likely what you paid. or very close.
Welcome to the board.
