Hi can anyone recommend a CAD programme, for home use that will run on a Mac on the latest 10.8.4.

Draftsight has had very good reviews . Very comparable to AutoCAD but this is free and comes in a MAC version.

Heeks cad is 3d and also free.
IMHO heeks Cad has a bit of a learning curve .

I've been using ViaCAD 2D/3D for several years now, and really like it. For around $100 (often on special for $70) I think it's great value for a full 3D modeller. No, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of SolidWorks and others, but they cost an arm and leg!
There is a learning curve, but you will not find a useful package without one in my opinion. The time to be productive is quite short in relative terms, and there is an excellent user's forum which has a lot of experienced and helpful members.

I have been using TurboCAD Deluxe V5 & the V6 for Mac for a couple of years now & I am happy with the performance for the money AUD$150. I mostly produce 2D working drawings & the software does this very well. There is a good forum for TC for Mac & if I have had a problem, it has been solved quickly & accurately from the forum members.

I will second 2D/3D ViaCad , it does everything that the average model engineer would want and is not only affordable , but very easy to learn.
There are several tutorials available too so you can be up and running in no time.

Thanks for all your advise I have gone for the ViaCad V8, as it looks good and the price was suited my pocket. I did try a few of the free ones out there but I could see why they were free.
