Steam Hammer "Breisch" print Question in "Plans"

I posted this in "Plans" and then realized that may not be the best place. The pics are in the original posting in "Plans". Please respond on that thread. Thanks, - Reed ------------------------------- "Reed, have built both hammers. Let me know if I can be of any help..... gary"...

    Looking for Breisch Plans

"Reed, have built both hammers. Let me know if I can be of any help..... gary" Gary (not exclusive to Gary, all comments are welcome), It has been some time and have started with this model. Most of the frame is machined and I think I see an issue between the actual casting and the...

    Tapping Model Pipe Elbows

After reading MikeR C post many moons ago, I remembered the jig when I needed a globe valve for a steam hammer model. I drew a set of diagrams based on this thread and it is posted at: http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=17069.0 Many thanks to those posting on this thread...

PM Research Pipe Fittings and Globe Valve Jig

I looked and it was not the one. However in it was a reply that pointed to the thread that I originally saw. It is http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=6959.msg74371#msg74371 I'll post a note in both to tie them together. - Reed

PM Research Pipe Fittings and Globe Valve Jig

I needed plumbing fittings/valves for a steam hammer model. I'd purchased fittings and valves before, but this time decided to make them from the castings. I *think* it was this forum that I saw a pic of a jig for this but no diagrams. It was from that inspiration that I drew up some diagrams. I...

    Mill Drill Issue

For the mills I have a set of drill bits (fraction, letter, and number) that are screw machine length. It does 2 things for you, decrease the length of the drill and with less precise requirements it allows skipping the spot drill. - Reed

    Tube bending radius

Paul et al, I did a sketch in visio simply to eliminate obvious dimensional mistakes. Pls bear in mind this was an evolution of making a simple bending jig to to then bend the thinwall brass pipe for the Maytag engine. ;D Seem there was a set of plans for a really nice pipe bender in Projects...

    Tube bending radius

I built a bending jig, inspired by the Frank Ford wire bending jig. I went overboard but that is another story. In building a Maytag 1/2 scale engine, it calls for a part that is from 1/4" brass tubing bent at a 51 degree angle. I look at the wire bending jig and realize it will work if I...

Model Taper Pipe, MTP, tap drill chart needed

All helpful. This set (5 sizes; 1/8-56 to 5/16-27) was inherited and the origin unknown although "APEX UK" is printed on them. Nice to use the correct tap drill instead of using the tap to remove excess material. :-0 That chart is printed and included in the set for the time. Added it to this...

Model Taper Pipe, MTP, tap drill chart needed

I built a fuel pipe for a hit-n-miss engine, it required a 1/8 MTP thread. I have the taps and dies but no specs on the recommended tap drills. After searching a bit, I just measured the tap and picked out a bit. It is done, however I would _really_ like to find a tap drill chart for MTP...

Modeltec article for Maytag 1/2 scale, Nov & Dec 1990

Gail, Although I mentioned it in the reply to your email, thanks again for the assembly diagram. It looks like I'll get most of it done this holiday season before resuming the Day Job. The Playpen had the necessary materials except the cast iron for the cylinder sleeve so I'll be ordering that...

Modeltec article for Maytag 1/2 scale, Nov & Dec 1990

The following pic is the solution I used to locate the spark plug hole. The blind cylinder is positioned at 22 degrees per the print. The hole location could have been determined on the surface plate, but I had casting in the mill for the exhaust feature and pondered how I could locate the spark...

Modeltec article for Maytag 1/2 scale, Nov & Dec 1990

Gail, I sent you a PM. If you have a digital camera and can snap pictures of the pages that would be all I need. I do little scanning anymore as I find it sufficient to drag out this simple copy stand (from my teenage photography days, amazing what one keeps :) ) and snap the pages I want to...

Maytag 1/2 scale by B.Smith, looking for the Modeltec build article

Thanks, every step helps. I made a few parts today; noticed the flywheel diagram and the timing governor seem to be wrong. The hole for the governor spring is puts the spring almost in line with the weight and the pivot. I bet the article has the corrections. :-) My diagrams are dated '86...

Maytag 1/2 scale by B.Smith, looking for the Modeltec build article

Thanks Gail. Geesh, after searching I find these are common as uncommon sense. While making them would be reasonable, I think I'll just buy it and spend the time on the project. This is this is my first internal combustion engine, I assume I can power the spark plug with a standard coil...

Maytag 1/2 scale by B.Smith, looking for the Modeltec build article

humm, was looking for the Modeltec article. :P The little ole flywheel was not much of a subject at this point. ;D I'll snap some as I move forward. _Really_ would like to pursue the Modeltec article though. I have not looked for a 10mm spark plug yet, I assume they are out there. - Reed...

Maytag 1/2 scale by B.Smith, looking for the Modeltec build article

** first posted in "questions and Answers" and figured that might not be the correct place, but I can not figure out how to move it. :-[ Folks, I have a Maytag 1/2 scale casting kit that my father started a couple of years ago and now I will finish it. I believe I have all the castings and...
