Hi I decided my next project is a Diesel engine so I bought Crank case casting from Hemingwas Kits.

The casting is rather rough.
I thought I shall start with a another part the transfer port. and then the carburetor, fuel tank.View attachment 103910 View attachment 103911 View attachment 103912

Start with crankcase casting . Remove all roughness with fine file and sand paper
then air blast it with Glass powder. You will get very nice shiny casting surface.
 
Thanks for your advice kadora & cox24711. I think I will go with sand paper and then sand blast it to get the
crank case look like casted.

No good idea to first mill the top of the house before drilling / turning the crankcase crankcase. You can risk the wrong height between the center of the crankcase and the top of the crankcase and the angle between crankshaft / cylinder. :eek::eek::eek:

1. Mark up the center of the crankcase where you should drill / turn the crankcase as the crankshaft should be there and knock light the center with punch.
2. Tighten the crankcase on the 4 jaws chuck at lathe and adjust until the center is aligned without throw with a long center rod on tail stock + the pointer in the punch mark on crankcase and dial gauge. Or see at Youtube how to..
3. Drill / turn the crankcase to the finished measure of crankcase and bore for crankshaft + tread up treading for the back cover.
4. Create a special tool to fasten back the crankcase and set up on the lathe and turn the front of the crankcase to the right length of the whole crankcase.
5. Tighten the crankcase on milling vice to the milling machine and you have a correct angle between the crankshaft and cylinder then you can drill center of cylinder bore on the top of crankcase and mill to correct height and + fastening hole for screws.

Hope you did not made the crankcase smaller than the stated measure that you could correct the error after you has read above.

I,m aware of that , so I just took a couple of 0,1mm, I left more than 1 mm .
But I was lazy to use my 4 jaw chuck so I machined it in the 3 jaw chuck .
I marked the center on crank case and it came out very well , there is more
machining to do on the case.
