    surface table mods

Had a clean today, DA sander and scotchbrite. came up ok but some areas deeper than hoped. 1988 certifed underside ribs I think in light of this I'm going to put a neat array of m12s in the top for clamping stuff down. I will see if I can make a clamp for my vice as those holes would be a...

    surface table mods

I've just got a lovely surface table. Not much evident wear but surface rusty so needs a clean. Problem is I bought it more for a workbench rather than surface table. I would like to mount a vice and would also be wanting to clamp stuff to it for welding. This means drilling holes. good idea...

    Metal Muffins

I have run with this theory for years, I am no metalurgist and most of the metal i find is of unknown origins so even if I did know what i needed I couldn't id it :-\ as you say "feel" is a big part and I don't tend to get involved with high stress, except everyday life ;)

How I got the scrap man to sell me some of his stuff.

We have a yard here with an owner who is paranoid about H&S I reckon as he won't even let you look let alone rummage or buy :(

    ML4 allignment

being another newbie I had have the same problem :P the main carriage is fast moving so lots of care is needed, I have started using the feeds for most jobs, but never turn your back :o The top slide on mine has degree markings but I wouldn't trust them much on a 40 plus years old lathe and...

    ER40 for a 40int + flycutter

I am in need of a tool holder for my mill as all I have is a Clarkson auto that takes upto a 5/8 dia tool. I am looking at an ER40 as it has the widest range, upto 25mm. Being new to this I am wondering about the lack of thread in the collets like the Clarkson has into which the tool screws, is...

    Beaver needs a fiddle...

;D ;D Not long ago I Got a Beaver VBRP mill and have now got it into it's final position. I made some box section lengths with some angle brackets welded on each end which bolt to the mill base ( couldn't bolt direct to box as i needed a little extra width to accommodate a pallet truck) and...

    Beaver VBRP help

I agree, the handfeed issue is going to be just learning what does what :) Thanks for the pins link, I was hoping for a UK company but all i came up with was USA suppliers :/ I managed to source a big dividing head yesterday that had been sat at the back of a mates garage for some years and was...

    Beaver VBRP help

To tilt you loosen the nuts on the front and tilt with a ratchet on a splined shaft then tighten the nuts back up. To get to zero is just a scale and pointer which to me seems a little hit n miss? The manual mentions the tapers but none were supplied with the machine.
