I need to make a cast iron cylinder that is 1.417 OD and 1.968 Long
Today I got my hands on a piece of cast iron rod that was 2-1/4" x 6" long
I didn't want to waste any of it so I thought I'd chuck it up and face one
end true, then center drill it and stick a center in it to turn the OD.
Free hanging 6" chucking on 1/4"... Looked a little shaky but I'll just take
light cuts. First interrupted cut went fine. Second cut was a little noisy.
Third cut went, GRAB, SNAP, DUCK!
Then I cut the stock to 1/8" over finish in the band saw and machined to
size without incident.
Color me stupid again!
