On Sunday I was watching and talking to motorcycle speed record contenders riders and helpers at my local 1.9mile airfield.

They were testing and having shakedown runs one with his turbine thrust driven streamliner before going over the pond next year to Bonneville.

This was a nostalgic time for me being involved in 1974 and had asked the organiser if I could test run my model flash steam hydroplane.

With the redesigned piston that had reduced weight by a 1/6 I had concern about oil loss from the crankcase with it.

Well fired it up under the eye of the real speed freaks.

I'm not sure if the generator had been preheated too much but on pulling the starter cord it ran very well with no cooling down as used to be when not under load.

As noise is a bind at the airfield the meter was placed near the silencer.

On strip down the piston etc. looks good but in two weeks when run in competition I will know if the modification is a success.
