Good day all. Are any of you out there familiar with this engine? It's 9" in length, 4.5" wide by 7" tall. Looks like it's a bit Stuart Turner and bit Westinghouse but not!? Thank you for any advice you might lend.

    Cylinder Sleeve Source

Why wouldn't SS make a good sleeve? This is vintage old technology we're talking about. The cylinder may be subjected to a max of 120 strokes a minute, the pistons are leather cups at around 3" diameter. Fluid is always in the cylinder. Stroke of eight inches at best. I'll try to upload a...

    Cylinder Sleeve Source

I'm a newbe, probably a bit over my head. I'm in the process of rebuilding a water pump that dates back to the late 18 early 1900's. Pump designed to be run with a hit miss engine. I want to resleeve the cylinder. Where can one go to source a piece of SS pipe, 3" in diameter, 1/16's wall...

    Chimney build, help with how!

I'm in the middle of sprucing up one of my boilers, a Stuart 504 adaptation. How do I go about making a new chimney? I have a sheet of tin with a brick pattern stamped into it. I'd guess it's around twenty six gauge. Where should I head? Needs to be right 1-1/8" in diameter and twelve inches in...

    Mystery Steam Engine

Good evening all. I purchased this engine a few months ago and with a bit of research have narrowed down the date of picture taken to the 1930's. It runs smooth on air, have not tried steam yet. What do you guys think, a one of a kind? Any help and advice would be deeply appreciated.

    Stuart Beam Help With Knock

As I got home this evening I checked out a few things on my beam. Results as follows. 1. The crank has a bit of play on the shaft, just a bit. 2. The connecting rod as it attaches to the crank pin has a lot of horizontal play. 3. The beam as it connects to the beam crank shaft has a fair amount...

You guys are giving me all great areas to check out. I deeply appreciate. I wish some of you were closer! Not being a machinist I lack the feel and eye of what to look for. I'll check out the areas you all mention and see what I can come up with and post accordingly. Thanks again for letting me...

    Stuart Beam Help With Knock

Thank you gbritnell, I'll try a run with a heavier weight oil to see if that quiets it down. I'm using 3 in one at the moment. I hope that's all it is.

    Stuart Beam Help With Knock

I recently acquired a Stuart Beam built in the 70's. It was built my a machinist who at the finish of build and a few fires never finished dressing it up with paint, etc. This was just what I was looking for. I can hardly wait for the final prep and dress. I've run it on air, I can get it as low...
