Also Live Steam magazine ran a construction series from Jan/Feb 1994 through May/June 1996. This was based on the Coles plans and castings.

    Ignore this topic

I'd love to join a team build, but have to finish the house addition first. I am part way through building Jerry Howell's V-Twin. It's definitely not a beginners engine. Don't get me wrong, the plans are top notch. It just has a lot of parts, some of which are very time consuming. It also...

    Stuart Beam Engine

Orrin, I have a beam and entabulator that I believe came from a Stuart Beam kit. I'd like to verify that so if it is not too much to ask, can you tell me what the distance is between the holes at each end of the beam (center to center distance off the plans). Also, the basic dimensions shown...

    Found treasure ?

I got one piece of aluminum 3 feet by 2 feet by 1.5 inches. It was 7075 aluminum for $100 ($1 per pound). Also a piece of 6061, same size. Best item was 14 pieces of 1.5 inch brass, each 14 inches long. Free. Jim

    Cast Iron

Lodge is today's best made. The pans are actually made in China. Be sure to keep it seasoned and it will perform like the best non-stick you have ever used. My wife has a collection of old Wagner-Ware (now produced by American Culinary, IIRC), but now also cast in China. Jim

Scaling a LT Stirling Cycle engine

I have a 6 inch Low Temperature Differential Stirling engine plan and want to build a 4 inch version. Does anybody have any reference or experience doing this? Does it all scale at the same ratio? Thanks, Jim

A little about myself HSM history

Hi all, I go by either JimH or JimHs on various metalworking sites. I am an electrial engineer by education, but have done software for the past 30 years. Grew up in my dad's machine shop, although not allowed to touch the big tools. About 10 years ago the bug came back and I started...
