    Retractable threading tool

It's not the switch you worry about :big: it's your chuck flying off Perhaps "CAN BE" should be replaced with "IS SAFE TO" Chris

    A question about sherline spindle

It is clear that Sherline: uses just thread and shoulder face for location (source: www.sherline.com), whereas Taig (Peatol) uses more classical arrangement of face and diameter register (see details on the excellent site here: http://www.lathe.com/spindles.html) Rest assured that dia B is...

    A question about sherline spindle

It's not the shoulder, but register face that ensures concentricity of chuck and spindle. For example: Does Sherline have similar design? or does it rely on the thread and shoulder alone? Chris

Allan, I don't know what you are doing wrong, but the direct links in my post (#2) are still OK... Chris

    General Locomotive 4-4-0

Like I have said in my original post - some countries count wheels, other count axles, so 0-2-0 is perfectly sound wheel arrangement if you are in France, Switzerland, Turkey, Poland etc, etc Here a fine example of 0-2-0 loco: http://www.flickr.com/photos/humanoide/3488239888/ and yes I have...

    General Locomotive 4-4-0

What you did "wrong" was to go to google "everything" option instead of "images" option. You didn't follow instructions - I said "google images" not "google". Chris ;D :P

    General Locomotive 4-4-0

The answer is simple ;D type 4-4-0 into google images and it should be obvious. So you have four wheels on the front bogie, four coupled wheels and zero trailing bogie. And just to confuse matters - in some countries they count axles not wheels. Chris

    What am i doing wrong?

That is rigid (relatively speaking): (from the web page I have linked to before) - notice the size of lump of iron the bed is fixed to ;D Steel bookshelf, even with hardwood is (for the purposes of supporting the lathe) as good as a piece of jelly :big: Chris

    Lathe chuck size

Well ... here is 4" chuck next to 6" on my lathe: I have concluded that just because it is possible doesn't mean it's wise :) I am now waiting for 5" chuck and the big one will either be for sale or might use it on the rotary table, as previously mentioned. Chris

Help with screw cutting on a myford

It's a crappy angle markings on the topslide that are confusing you ... ML7 topslide can rotate about 63deg, so no problem in setting over as required. Your topslide looks about right. Chris ps this has been discussed before ;) Here is the angle you are looking for:

    Cheap piloted tap wrenches

The one difference between yours (Eric) and original poster's is that as far as I can ascertain you didn't cut tommy bars in half? I would be concerned about the integrity of brazed bar halves - I guess the proof of the pudding is in eating. I await an update on practical tests (particularly for...

    Fly cutter

Dave, You have asked perfectly legitimate question about how and why something works. Some of us enjoyed trying to help you to understand. Some stated "bloody obvious", not adding much to the discussion... ;D It's in the nature of forums (and interweb), that by posting your questions and...

    Fly cutter

One picture is worth thousand words: Hopefully self-explanatory? Chris ps you can put the cutter in the middle, just have to adjust tool angles to suit

    Dividing head

And that's how I read your table - hence my simplified version showing all possible available divisions you can get using your wheels. For example to get 20 division, you may use either 140:20 (every 7th hole), or 120:20 (every 6th hole) or 100:20 (every 5th hole). On another hand if you want 48...
