    Shutdown project

Good day, This is one of my shutdown projects. The king is 93mm high, the pawns 45mm. All machined out 6061 25mm round stock. Very satisfying project. I made the board with recesses to allow me to leave the game set up when I put the board away. Stay safe and well, regards Dennis

    Bandsaw blade problem

Good day, I have a question relating to my small bandsaw. H & F BS-5V, small machine maximum capacity 125mm round stock. Good little machine, extremely reliable. I was cutting 50mm free machining steel. Nothing difficult. This morning the blade developed a light “knock”, once per blade...

    AL51G belt running off

Hello, My H&F 9 x 20 lathe is spitting the v-belt from the pulley group on the motor driven shaft. This machine is also sold by Harbour Freight, Grizzly and Jet. There seems to be a runout of .5mm or so on the bottom or A shaft pulley which will be causing the problem. I would like to know if...

    Small steam engine

Hello, I would like to build a small steam engine to fit in a model of a tugboat. I was sure I had seen plans on the site, can’t track them down though. The engine would need to be no bigger then 50mm x 50mm externally. However a smaller engine would wonderful if possible. Any link or...

    Milling aluminium alloys

Good day, A little help please? When I mill aluminium alloys the flutes on the cutters pick up and clog. End mill and slotting. Alloys 6061 and 5052. Difficult to remove the material from the flutes. 6mm up to 12 mm diam cutters, 2 and 4 flutes. Rocol liquid lubricant, possibly should...

    Fly cutter

I have been reading up on design and operation of fly cutters. One cutting tool, either HSS or carbide. Also have read where single fluted slot drills reduce vibration and chatter when compared to two or four flutes. Does it follow that an insert tipped face milling cutter would function...

    Milling feed

Hello, I have a small mill (Sieg SX2). I am unsure of the cutting speeds & feeds with this machine. The machine is much lighter than the two I have previously used. Steel work: Rocol cutting fluid. Small diameter end mills, 6 - 12 mm, Carbide tipped 20 mm, maximum size indicated for this...

    Cross feed screw

Hello, A question of tightening a cross feed. I have a 9 x 20 (AL51G) Hare and Forbes lathe. Overall not a bad little machine. However the cross feed has the standard 5+ graduations of slack between moving the wheel and the slide beginning to react. Has anyone tried machining a new screw...

    Hare & Forbes, Titan

Hello again, Has anyone experience with either a H & F AL50 or AL51 and the Titan TL210V. Of course the Sieg C4 fits into the mix. I have read in the forum mixed reviews of the Sieg machines. Finding an accurate tight machine seems to be finding the best of the small Chinese machines...

    Taig and Sherline

Hello, I would like to buy a micro lathe. There seems to be two mentioned most often. Sherline and Taig, with Taig being the higher priced of the two. Is there a major difference between the two? Both good and bad? Or in fact is there a make that I have missed. Thanks, Dennis

    Titan lathes

Good morning, Has any one experience with the "Titan" machinery (mini lathes in this case) sold in Australia please? They have a TL210V, change gear machine and a TL250V. Both seem to be well made in the photos. Thanks, :) Dennis
