Single cylinder air blast injection diesel engine

Hi Bruce, Thanks for the kind words! The bigger parts of my engine are sand blasted and painted satin black with paint from the DIY store. The small parts are tumbled and treated with Steel Black, a chemical blacking stuff. This works fine and is long lasting. No dimensional changes ! See...

Hi Jeff, Well done, runs very good with a lovely sound. What do you think about a period switchboard and some tiles on the floor? Do you start it by hand or with the use of a power drill? Anyway a very successful project. Heat off ! Kind regards, Johan.

Compression and piston to bore clearance

Rule of thumb: With a clean and dry cylinde ( no oil ) When you shut one side of the cylinder the piston should stay in place. When you open the cylinder the piston should fall out inmediately by it's one weight.

    Webster Engine Question

Hi Bob, Cast iron is the best material for IC engine cylinders as wel as pistons because of its carbon content. For such a small engine a should go for a cast iron piston because the thermal expansion is the same as the cylinder. This gives a good compression when the engine is cold. The oil...

    1/4 inch spark plug

Hi Ed, In the Netherlands where I live are no spark plugs 1/4 x 20 tpi for sale. Normal plugs are 1/4 x 32 tpi. For cheap Coils we use 2nd hand Coils from a Honda or Yamaha moped. ( Not the electronic ones.) They work great on a 3.6 volt NiCad battery. Kind regards, Johan.

    Engine lubrication

Hi Jeff, The amount of oil needed for proper lubrication of your engine depends on many factors. One of them is the materials used. I mostly use cast iron for the cylinder, piston and ring(s). I should go for one drip a minute, the suggested one drip a second creates a mess. During the...
