    Enco 20" Milling Machine

I'm looking to buy a benchtop mill. I was pretty much settled on buying a Sieg X3 or SX3 when I took a look at the latest Enco sale catalog. They have a benchtop 20" mill on sale. It looks very interesting as the capacity is a step up from the X3, and the price looks very good, at least to me...

    Smithy Multi-Function machines

Thanks for all of your input. I've pretty much decided to go with separate machines now. I'm up in the air as to which bench top lathe (leaning toward an 11x26 though), but the mill will definately be either a Sieg X2 or X3 - depends on how the budget holds up. Cliff.

    Radius Cutter

Thanks, DB. That'll do it just right. I had found another one, but it was so complicated and required a right-angled motor gear mechanism - not in my game plan... Cliff.

Cutting Tool Size for 9x20 lathes?

Thanks, Tin, I may buy several "upgrades". I stumbled on a site this morning that has several "goodies": http://www.harrisson.biz/ Cliff.

Cutting Tool Size for 9x20 lathes?

Thanks for the great responses - just what I was looking for. So, if I made a custom tool holder I could build in that ".030" shim" and make it even easier...? Cliff.

    Radius Cutter

Where can I get a set of plans for a radius cutter. I like what you've done here. Cliff.

Cutting Tool Size for 9x20 lathes?

I'm now looking at buying a Sieg 9x20 lathe. I would like to know which size cutting tools most of you who own similar size lathes are using, ie: 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", etc.? Thanks, Cliff.

    Small lathe question

Sounds like you're going through the same challenge that I am. I started out looking at a Smithy 3-in-1, then the Shopmaster Bridgemaster 3-in-1 (all because of space limitations), and now I'm zeroing in on the Sieg 7x20 lathe and X3 mill. From what I've gathered elsewhere the Sieg lathe may be...

    Green Steam Engine???

This swashplate certainly does have some "sex appeal" - some wild motion there - nicer looking too, at least in my opinion. Cliff.

    Green Steam Engine???

Has anyone here done anything with the Green Steam engine? http://www.greensteamengine.com/ It looks kinda neat and interesting... Cliff.

    CUTAWAY ENGINE

Very interesting post - thanks. The cutaways are great. From a video, technical point-of-view I'd suggest starting out with a full view of the engine and then going in for the close-ups in some sort of order. Most people will find that easier to follow. This is not meant as criticism, by the...

    Smithy Multi-Function machines

Yeah, the money does add up, and I have thought long and hard about individual machines, but space is my problem. We've down-sized and space is at a premium. No matter how I slice the pie it looks as if it comes out to the $5,000 neighborhood in order to be able do anything decent. You're...

    Smithy Multi-Function machines

I've been spending some time reading about the various models and their specifications when I came across this: http://www.shoptask.com/ I must say that it looks like an impressive bit of machinery...now to start saving my pennies... Does anyone out there have any experience with the newere...

"Trains Unlimited: Steam Trains" TV Program

I don't know where to post this, but I'll start here. If it isn't the right place then perhaps the moderator can move it to where it belongs... In the U.S. on the TV channel History International there is a series titled "Voyages". Today the program was "Trains Unlimited: Steam Trains". The...

    Smithy Multi-Function machines

In spite of my years I'm new to machining. I have limited space, etc. - the same old story that many others have. I've been looking at the Smithy line of multi-function machinery. In particular the Midas model 1220 LTD has caught my eye. It appears to have most of the capacity that I would ever...

    New in Pearland, TX

I've had an interest in building models since childhood. I took a machine shop course in high school - a total disaster for me. I still feel that the teacher gave me a passing grade more out of pity than anything else. I'm retired now - well, actually disabled - and I still have an interest...
