A few pics from Monagear model show

A fellow HMEM member, Dave (a.k.a. deverett) pointed me in the direction of a local model show in Monagear (in Wicklow, Ireland) yesterday. Dave - I didn't get to see you at your stand (you were AWOL), but I loved your engines! Sorry if I've pipped you to the post with photos, but thought I'd...

    Excellent customer service from Stuart

Last week I discovered a nasty slag inclusion in the casting for an eccentric for a Twin Launch. I emailed Stuart Models and 2 days later I received two replacement castings free of charge. Thank you Stuart Models! (Andy Meakin in particular)

    Soldering a double Crankshaft

Hi folks. Quick question about soldering a double crankshaft (for a Stuart twin): would you solder both crank assemblies in the one job, or would you have two soldering, cleaning up after the first one? I'm worried that by the time I'd get to the last (8th) joint all the flux would have...

    Casting Kits for Taig/Peatol?

Quick question folks, Do any of you know of any hit & miss engine casting kits that would be doable on a Taig lathe? Possibly with the assistance of a yet-to-be-purchased-but-inevitably-quite-small mill. I'm sort of attracted to hit & miss engines. Be nice to make a tiny one... Or...

How long is a piece of string....

Just wondering.... I reckon my Stuart 10V took about 60-70 hours to build (so far...I could probably spend another 70 hours fixing my mistakes). In your opinion would that be "too fast", "too slow" or "about right"? And on the same subject - how long do people reckon it takes to do a...

    Belated Hi from Ireland

I live in Wicklow, Ireland. I'm a software developer by day. Always wanted to make model engines. My first engine (ignoring several childhood mamods, which I always knew were 'toys' and therefore didn't count) was a Stuart S50 from a machined kit, and since then I've wanted to make an engine...

    Stuart 10V almost done

Hi folks. I've more or less finished my Stuart 10V. It's taken about a month's worth of evenings and has been pretty character-building. Plumbing, painting and a base still to go. Not without faults (in fact there were many) but it nevertheless runs very nicely even just blowing into it...

    Displacement Lubricator

Hi folks, I'm building a 10V at the moment - almost finished (pics soon), and starting to think about the pipework. So I have a quick question on displacement lubricators... If I put a displacement lubricator on one side of the steam chest, and the steam inlet on the other, would the...

Stuart 10V Steam Ports - How to drill 'em...

Hi folks - new to this forum and building a Stuart 10V (my second engine - first one was a little stuart oscillator - http://markwilkes.blogspot.ie/2012/02/stuart-steam-oscillator-part-iii.html). My question is this: why do they ask for diagonal steam ports in the cylinder on the plans...
