My partner and myself have a real affinity for emeralds, and I buy them for her at almost every special occasion.

For her birthday in April, I not only treated her to some nice earrings and a pendant, I also purchased some little known about earth mined emeralds, these are basically as they come out of the ground before they have had any sort of treatment to enhance them (most of the shiny ones you see in a jewelers have such enhancements), except for facet cutting, such as oiling, heat treatment or a combination of both.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was to have taken them with me to Bulgaria on our holiday, and have a jeweler there mount them for me, but in the confusion, they were left behind.

I am now looking for someone in the UK to mount them up for me, into a pair of stud earrings and a large drop pendant (no chain required), in silver (all her other ones are mounted in gold), and she thinks they would be more in keeping with their basic features.

So if anyone fancies a go or knows of a reasonably priced gem mounter, then I would be very happy to hear from you.

Have you tried a local jeweller ?

Herbie,

'Local' jewelers don't seem to exist any more around where I live, like everything else, they have just gone over to being box shifters for major suppliers, and if you want anything out of the ordinary, like I am after, everything has to be 'sent away' and charged exorbitant rates for.
I had a ring sized up by two sizes a few months ago, by a supposedly local jeweler, and the bill came to well over 70 UK Pounds. The infill material for the job was negligible, and they wouldn't even consider me supplying the necessary spare material.
I can resize rings myself, using the jewelers tools I have in my possession, but only if they are a solid band without a gem mount on them, my dexterity isn't as good as it used to be, and ready made basic mounts are just not available in the sizes and shapes I want to hold.
I was hoping that some budding amateur jeweler would come along and offer to mount them up for me, and make a decent profit for their efforts.

From now on, I will just get the gems mounted up in the country I buy them from, before delivery, they will certainly be a lot less hassle than trying to get them done here.

Thanks for the thought anyway Herbie,

John

Hi John, maybe there's a lapidary club nearby that may be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction.

Paul.
