    Another Lathe for the Shop

I have started cleaning up the lathe. I took the chuck apart, cleaned and lubricated it. I used a wire cup brush on a 4.5" grinder to clean the rust off. I also filled all of the spots that lead to bearings with heavy machine oil. I chucked up a piece of 1/2" diameter steel bar. I was...

I found everyone of the broken parts for the lead screw on eBay. I am really stoked to get this machine running. "G"

    Another Lathe for the Shop

I want to make chips. Even with the broken lead screw housing it will make chips and I really don't have much confidence in my ability to teach myself to make threads. Thanks, "G"

    Another Lathe for the Shop

The attempts I made to restore the burned lathe were all for naught. I returned back to my original lathe to see if I can use it. I started cleaning it up and checking it out. I didn't even know what kind or model. It is a Seneca Falls Star Lathe with leather belt drive system. Of...

How do you heat your shop ?

Heating really isn't a huge problem in Louisiana. I have a small propane heater that knocks off the chill. In the summer the heat kills. Today at 6am it is 80F with 90% humidity. The high today is expected to reach 95F. For cooling I am planning for an 8000 BTU AC unit. For now I have a...

    A New Shop in Louisiana

At last. I think running the ditch witch gave me a detached retina. Now that I am all healed up back to work. I hired a crew to come out and pour some more concrete for the shop. I added a sidewalk, a slab for the air compressor and another 20 x 20 slab in front for a driveway. Sidewalk...

    Cat Repellent System

It is my own cat that is leaving the presents. I have my two cats contained in an escape proof yard area. I have access by a screen door from my car port and a another gate. The screen door is right next to the back door of the house and for some reason they choose that spot as their...

    Cat Repellent System

I will be happy to. I will create a circuit diagram and post the program here as well. I use plain old tap water to squirt them. I don't want to hurt the cat just annoy them. "G"

    Cat Repellent System

Our darling cats like leave us their aromatic presents by the back door. Even though I provide them with two large and clean litter boxes. I found this idea on a website http://www.instructables.com/ several people have built different version of cat repellents using buzzers and other noise...

    The start of mine

Just to add a few things to think about... We park in a driveway. We drive on a highway. Cargo travel by ship. Shipments travel by car (train car). Just sayin' :hDe: "G"

    A New Shop in Louisiana

The slab is extra. My slab is 20 x 20. The website gives dimensions of the building as 21 x 21, they are counting the over hang of the roof. The building has been up for a year. My only complaint is the roof panels run side to side instead of up and down. Leaves and debris collects on the...

    A New Shop in Louisiana

Kevin, That is a future plan. My 20 x 20 garage will be insulated and air conditioned for machining work and power tools. The containers will be moved around and situated as additional work space and perhaps even a third or fourth container added as needed. Thanks for the post, "G"

    VFD Questions

Everyone, I am curious about VFDs. How do they work? Do I need to buy a special motor to use with a VFD? What if I have a machine with a three phase motor? I need a three phase VFD? What brand gives the best results? As you know I have an 11 x 36 Rockwell lathe I am attempting...
