    1/4 scale Anzani Fan Engine

That is exactly why I used it for to replace my camera tripod parts that kept breaking. Looks like those parts came out great, silicon bronze seems to flow really well into sand molds. I was thinking of making a three cylinder like you are making and I have seen a Anzani three cylinder in a...

    Oil burner.

This is what I thought would happen. Years ago I worked with a company and had to put out oil fires for safety training, it was very scary to see oil boiling and it was hard to put out. I use diesel with WMO and never use petrol.

    Oil burner.

Back when I first started melting iron with propane I started to think about how to use WMO instead of propane. The idea I came up with was boiling WMO in a steel container and then using a tube to run the oil vapor inside the furnace mixed with air to burn it. The only thing that put me of...

    What's happened to my crucible?

I know a few backyard metal casters who use pure silicon and they complain that takes a long time to dissolve in copper but for me ferrosilicon dissolves in a few minutes. This is why I use it because it is a low melting point substitute for steel.

    What's happened to my crucible?

That is a really bad slag build up on the top of your crucible and I have never seen that happen when I make silicon bronze. It maybe that it is a poor quality crucible and with extra heat output it has gone way past max temperature. Years ago I was given a crucible and did a aluminium melt...

    Aluminium casting problem.

Can you please give some details of the structural members you melt?

    Aluminium casting problem.

Many years ago I used chlorine tablets but they are really bad for your lungs so I don't use any fluxes or degassing pellets.

    Aluminium casting problem.

I have a problem with aluminium casting that I cannot figure out why it is doing it? I made a video with closeups showing that defect.

    F.I.R.E. (Foundry Invitational & River Exhibit) - 2024

I would love to go but it is a long and expensive jet plane trip to get there.

Nice looking iron castings and they look great after machining.

Gravity fed diesel burning furnace startup

I have not been there since 2019. If you want to cast your small engine projects and you live nearby no point in making your own furnace and sand. Say hello to doc for me.

    Recasting a broken casting.

I watched the video and I have a similar method using a hacksaw to cut a small piece off and use a torch to see if it burns. Using a file is a better method.

    Recasting a broken casting.

So do I with every post about foundry work put endless warnings with that post and put off everyone trying it for themselves? So does everyone post endless warnings when using machine tools and other operations that could be dangerous in their workshop for beginners?

    Recasting a broken casting.

The leftovers from my last melt were aluminium rims which did not burn at that time and the rest for this melt were bicycle rims which I have melted many times because they are easier to cut up for melting. Aluminium car rims are the best alloy to melt and do not contain magnesium. I did melt VW...

    Recasting a broken casting.

I tried to straighten a casting for my electric saw and it broke. So I cast another part and made a video about it. At the moment it is summer where I live and my green sand tends to dry out before the mold has been completed so I added lots of water to make up another mold. It was way too much...
