    outboard engine question

It's a 2012 mercury 2.5hp 4 stroke model 1F02201HK I found this schematic, but it doesn't show any spring in that location (blue arrow) another question: this shows three gaskets 22, 23 ,22 together. (green arrow) I put 23 on the other side. if wrong, there isn't a gasket at the other side...

    outboard engine question

i hope this isn't too far off topic, but i just took apart and cleaned the carburetor on my outboard engine, and I'm not sure if I lost a part or spring from my choke assembly? there's a short vertical spring that doesn't seem to pull the choke back into it's un-choked position completely...

bending sides of square aluminum tube

thanks - I didn't know it was called a "drift". always something new to learn!

bending sides of square aluminum tube

It's for a camera jib arm - or mini-crane. the arm I'm using is 1.625" - and the inside of the square tube (which is the upright that the arm pivots on) is just a little smaller than that. I only need to add about 3/16 more width to fit the arm in. I'm going to try heating with a torch, and...

bending sides of square aluminum tube

I don't think I'll be able to heat treat it in my garage... :) Guess I'll just hope for the best!

bending sides of square aluminum tube

thanks for the responses! I guess I'll try bending it. what do you mean by heat treating? hit the area with a MAP torch?

bending sides of square aluminum tube

I want to bend out the sides of a square aluminum tube - but don't know if the alloy the tube is made of will bend or crack. It's a 2" tube with 1/8" walls. will bending it be okay, or will it weaken the bent area and possibly crack and fail later? any thoughts?

    pipe diameter increase

I finally tried the Teflon material on the post and it's too thick - so I'll have to try a thinner mylar (?) or maybe just fill the gap with a thick grease??

    Drill bit keeps wandering!

after years of dreaming, i finally found a drill press at a garage sale this summer - and it's awesome. Don't know how I got by without it. I've made several jigs to line up small parts so that the holes are all dead-on.

    10:1 geared manual drive

I have a camera that I want to be able to pan horizontally in very small increments. So I'd like to build a gearbox with a manual crank on it that will take 10 turns to rotate a gear on the end of a cable just once. Anyone know of anything close to this that I could adapt? i bought a small...

    pipe diameter increase

never heard of "Shim stock" - I'll look it up! "Wrapping multiple layers is not a good idea as it will not stick to it's self reliably." Gail, you're absolutely right (!) What was I thinking? :O

    pipe diameter increase

Daelm, I'm in Farmington. I went ahead and bought the 12" sheet of material. the only downside - it's 30 mils thick. might be too thick - that'll add about 1/16" wrapped all the way around the pipe just once. I was hoping for something more in the 5 mil range, so I could wrap it several times...

    pipe diameter increase

that's great! I've never heard of that kind of tape. I'm in Michigan in the USA - [after searching online] Wow, that's pretty expensive! looks like 18 yrds in the shortest roll. I only need a couple of feet. maybe i can find some sheets of adhesive backed material instead of a roll of tape...

    pipe diameter increase

Hi This isn't a strictly engine question, but... I have a pump device that pivots on a 1 1/4" pipe - a hollow PVC pipe acts as the socket that fits over the pipe about 5". But the pipe is just a little too small, so that the device rocks slightly. So my goal is to wrap something around the...
