    Harold Lee

My condolences as well. And thank-you for taking the time to let us know. Often the family doesn't think of the virtual community and we are left wondering what happened or if there is a problem. Brian

    Help ! best Glue

For an indoor chair, I would think PVA just fine. I have been using Titebond III as a general purpose wood glue and like it just fine. It is more water / moisture resistant than PVA so I reach for it if the object might see time outside. Brian

    Electric arc- aluminium melting

I have used charcoal, propane and electricity. I found the charcoal and propane a bit noisy and expensive and created enough smell / smoke that I had to be careful when I was doing it (wife out and neighbors away, house windows closed, no laundry out!). For electricity, I bought a used top...

Software for making Printed Circuit Boards

Most hobbyists seem to recommend Eagle. I tried it and found it to be very unintuitive and clunky. I think it was written in the DOS days and ported forward many times. The free version restricts the board size. I use the free version of something called Dip Trace which I find far smoother...

Simple file guide - a version for quick change tool posts

Small world. I made one last night as well. Yours is much prettier! Not having a mill I welded a piece of 1/2" mild steel onto a piece of 1/4" plate and set it in an existing holder. One thing I have not seen before that worked very well was I used a stack of 4 skate bearings for each...

    Fun Furnace Picture

I have not used it a lot yet but so far I have just set the temp without the actual PID functionality. (ie on / off mode) I am still trying to figure out how to calibrate the temperature. The crucible is glowing at a colour of red that looks to be about 100 C higher than the controller is...

    Fun Furnace Picture

I use an electric kiln to melt aluminum. I added one of the PID controllers out of Hong Kong and a thermocouple to keep the temp where I want it. I put in a steel crucible and bring it up to temp first so the aluminum is not sitting there oxidizing as it heats. I add half salt (KCl _ NaCL...

    Ac-dc tig welder

    >>>Convert MIG to TIG While a skilled welder might be able to demonstrate it, you will be less than happy with the final product. MIG is constant Voltage so the current control is varied by how fast the wire is fed into the arc. Faster wire means shorter arc which means more heat. TIG is a...

    4500psi air compressor

I must be missing something obvious but how do you hydrolock a compressor when the exhaust valve is open during the compressioin stroke? Brian

    Post office rant

Funny, I am in Canada and find the USPS a godsend. So far (touch wood) everything I have ordered comes directly through to my doorstep. If I am not home, it is held a few blocks away and I can pick it up anytime before 10 pm. All of the other carriers (UPS, FedEx etc.) charge absurd customs...
