    Small Gas Engine

Well I managed to get a bit of me time the last few days and heres a few pictures of what I have been up to. First I made up the big end bearing from a solid lump of 3" diameter phosphor bronze bar. I didn`t take any pictures as I was too busy concentrating on the job in hand so as not to...

Model of a Bessemer Hot Tube Oil Field Engine

Hello Chuck, that will make a nice looking model. The hot tube is not a problem on a model, they work just as well as the full size engine once you get the correct size hole down the tube. For others that may not know you move the burner either closer or further away from the cylinder to move...

    Small Gas Engine

Well here we are again, sorry it`s been so long since the last post on the progress of this engine but sadly my father died and I did not feel like playing computer for a while. Anyway I have made a little progress on the engine but unfortunately did not take as many pics as you would like, so...

    Small Gas Engine

Right then, let the fun begin. I like to work from castings, don`t know why I just do, so with this in mind I decided to make the parts I felt should have been in a complete set of castings. With this in mind I thought I would start with the sideshaft perch brackets. Blocks of steel for...

    Small Gas Engine

Vince what you see in the pictures is all I got, the sideshaft perch brackets and the mains caps will have to be machined or fabricated. Shouldn`t be too much of a problem, the mains caps will be a bit more work as one half is already machined, will have to match the caps up to them. MartinH

    Small Gas Engine

Hello all, while attending the 1000 engine rally here in the UK I came across these castings for a small gas engine. The large parts had been machined and a few items were included with the castings. It is always a risk buying castings that have been machined as to whether they are correct or...

    waste oil burner

Hello all, I have recently been reading up alot of books on setting up a home foundry. I will be using mostly aluminium and may venture to brass and bronze. Anyway, I would like to research a little more into waste oil burners. Does anyone use one? and did where did you get the plans to build...

Rotary tables - how often are they actually used?

An old or broken mt drill can be used for the mt. I cut off the end of an old drill and mounted in the lathe headstock centre and faced off and centre drilled, a point was then turned from another piece of bar. the point is put in my er chuck and the centre in the rt, thehead is then lowered to...

Briesch Hired Man ... Cam problem + other

I am on with two more of these engines at the moment. The other two i made ran first time, they are a great little engine and well proven to be good runners. I set the cam up by moving the small gear then adjust the bolt in the end of the rocker to give correct valve opening. I modified the end...

    RDG toolposts

I have been using one for about 18 months now and wonder how I managed before. I have had no problems with the toolpost, only fault I have with it is the parting tool is a little on the big side for my liking, but thats just personal preference. I have the next size up from the one you are...
