    Hello from India

Welcome to the group! I'm sure you will find much of interest here. We will look forward to seeing your progress on designing and building this engine.

    Proxxon PD400

I think you will find that the only aspect of the PD-400 that limits what you can do is the working dimensions. Within its work envelope, you can do any kind of work you need to good accuracy. In the model engineering world, flywheels, RR wheels, larger gears and pulleys, are about the only...

    Proxxon PD400

He was purposely abusing the machine as torture test, since he was planning to import and resell them himself. Indeed, I bought mine from him directly.

    Proxxon PD400

It is an excellent small lathe. It is strictly metric, and very well made in Austria. Their customer service has been excellent, even sending me a replacement part for free 2 years after my warranty expired, because I did not discover the problem till then. It has a full range of...

Which drill bits should an Aussie buy?

Since you are below the equator, shouldn't you be buying left hand drills?;) (For the humor impaired, "That's a joke, son, that's a joke.")

    Magnet mystery.

Exactly right. When you break a magnet in half, you get two magnets. Think of a plain old bar magnet, one end is N, the other end is S. when you break it in half, you don't get two monopole magnets, you get two dipole magnets. That is, breaking a bar magnet (or any magnet) in half, you...

Thanks. I foresee a lot of time spent on that site!

    Sharpening end mills on lathe

That is a great piece of thinking. I have the PD 400, and the Proxxon IB/E rotary tool. I even have the lathe tool mount for the IB/E that Proxxon sells, but it doesn't allow any swiveling like your version does, but that's easy to fix. I am bookmarking this thread. Thanks for a really...

    Noga Tools

+1 on the Noga magnetic bases. They are rock-solid compared to almost any other brand. The only problem is, having watched "Animal House" too many times, every time I pull out one of my Noga tools, I hear John Belushi chanting "Noga, noga, noga". ;D

    More WWII machining/manufacturing photos

Many of those pictures are available in much larger and better resolution images on shorpy.com http://www.shorpy.com/

    Hide-away metal storage drawer.

I did something very similar for my 4'x4' square worktable. I built a drawer out of 3/4" plywood on the bottom, with 44" 2x4's for the sides. I routed out on the bottom recesses to mount 4 heavy duty ball casters (metal balls). I routed recesses on all 4 sides of the drawer for flush mount...

    Don't you just love CNC?

I've been a professional computer programmer for almost 40 years. Here are a few comments I have made, or heard, dealing with computers. They apply to CNC as well. Computers allow us to make mistakes faster and with less effort than ever before. Modern computers allow us to make mistakes the...

Very nice job. That's a pretty good looking little machine!

    File handles

One of Guy Lautard's "The Machinist's Bedside Reader" volumes has an article about how to measure your hand, and use those measurements to proportion a handle to exactly fit your hand, for maximum control and comfort. If you are going to make them yourself, might as well make them for yourself.

    Encabulator build

The famous engineer, Dr. Walter Mitty (PhD, medicine; Commander, US Navy; Captain, Royal Air Force, ret.; crack shot; Allied intelligence agent (unconfirmed)) specified that optimum tuning of the turbo-encabulator's grammeters, and consequent minimization of the sinusoidal depleneration, was...

Getting the most from your Dremel

Bolster, thanks for resurrecting this thread. I had never seen it before, and now that I have, I've copied it to my plans folder. And of course, thanks to MKlotz for the original ideas!

    Drip Oiler--with a secret--

Nice design. Saved that in my plans folder. Can you post a PDF version of the cap? The image you posted is certainly usable, but the high resolution of the PDF version will look better when printed, and my eyes need all the help they can get! Thanks muchly!

    Thank You Bogs!!!

Thank you so much. That makes it extremely clear how to do it. I saved this post as part of my softcopy file on this level.

    Thank You Bogs!!!

Pardon me for horning in on this thread, but.... I have one of those levels, and it needs to be recalibrated. It's about 2 divisions off when flipped end for end. However, I cannot figure out how to open it up. The Chinglish instructions are unintelligible. On one side of mine is a round...
